Co-ordinator - Arts, Culture & Events

Donna Aston is the Coordinator of Arts, Culture and Events at Wyndham City Council.  Donna has extensive experience across the sector with a focus on reimagining artistic and operational delivery of cultural programs, festivals and events. During her time at Wyndham Donna has been responsible for the creation and delivery of the organisations Public Art and Collections Policy, 10 year Public Art Plan, Festival and Events Framework and leading a diverse and dynamic team of arts professionals.

Wyndham is the fastest growing city in the outer west, with the number of citizens set to hit over 500,000 by 2041. Consisting of a vibrant, hugely diverse population, the municipality is also home to the largest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Western Region.

Wyndham’s recently endorsed 10-Year Public Art Plan underscores the city’s passionate commitment to delivering a world class, highly contemporary public art collection. With curatorial themes that focus on four key elements of Wyndham’s constituency, the Public Art Plan gives precedence to Foregrounding, Localism, Habitat, and Futurism. With a strong focus on the cultural narratives of the Traditional Owners of the land on which Wyndham city is being built, Foregrounding gives precedence to the history and stories of the Bunurong and Wadawurrung peoples. With pillars of approach supporting worldwide best practice principles, the foundations are further grounded in commitments to academic study, consultation, and community outreach. In both theory and practice, delivering public art is all about putting community first and lifting up Wyndham’s aspirations as a creative force in the west.
